I consider myself a native Austinite as my family moved here when I was three. I grew up in north Austin, attended Reagan High School, was valedictorian and an Eagle Scout, and played soccer and was in the orchestra. I got a full academic scholarship to Southwestern University in Georgetown where I studied economics and political science. More importantly, I met my wife and a good number of lifelong friends at Southwestern. While she went off to medical school, I was accepted and attended the graduate business and law schools at the University of Texas. I earned my JD and MBA in four years, graduating in 1996. I have been in private legal practice and have served as corporate and general counsel at several startups, including a hedge fund and a local biotech firm. I have been licensed as an advisor since 2006 and I was an advisor and broker at Morgan Keegan (now Raymond James) before starting my own fee-only wealth management and planning firm in 2013.
I am enjoying having my own firm so that I can focus more on helping each client craft a sustainable plan for their financial future. Most folks know, on some level, what they need to do (save more, spend less), they just don’t have the time or inclination to do it on their own and need someone to push them forward a little. I honestly feel my combination of business and legal backgrounds uniquely enables me to help them filter out all the noise from Wall Street. Holdfast also lets me spend more time with my three young kids and that has been really wonderful.
